PRESCHOOL LEAD TEACHER
General Position Description
The Lead Teacher works along with the Director to create a caring and safe environment for the children and in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for daily lesson plans and leading her classroom throughout the day. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment
Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience of 5+ years
Early Child Development knowledge and experience.
Knowledge in Desired Results, Developmental Appropriate Practices.
Good communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude /disposition.
Ability to use the computer to input developmental data.
Ability to effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities.
Ability to make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being.
Must be able to manage confidential information.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40 pound child.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, weekly plans, and implement age appropriate curriculum (lesson plan) to nurture and stimulate all domains of children’s development in their care.
Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children’s learning and growth.
On an on-going basis, makes changes and adjustment to classroom as needed to better meet the developmental needs of the students in the class.
Perform on-going developmental evaluations to ensure that children are meeting developmental milestones and develop and implement lesson plans that address the individual needs of each child.
Develop strong relationships with every child in your classroom that helps them feel safe and welcome daily.
Collaborate with other teachers and peers to plan engaging and fun activities and lessons that drive learning and engagement in your classroom.
Provide responsive care to all children by adapting daily care giving routines and plans to the interests and needs of the individual child and the group.
Develop a strong relationship with the family and communicate on a regular basis of the children’s progress.
Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/caregivers.
Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships and experience clear communication with teaching staff.
Prepare developmental progress reports as needed, and organize parent conferences twice a year to discuss children's developmental progress, needs and interests.
Maintain accurate, complete and timely client and agency records; Completes daily meal and attendance
Maintain up to date emergency forms, curriculum plans, individual child development profile and other records as needed.
Assure a healthy, safe, clean and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
Assist with functioning and monitoring of nutrition and food service.
Ensure that the Teacher Assistant is kept updated in all matters concerning the classroom and program, i.e.
Lead Teacher Meetings, lesson plans, policies & procedures, training received.
Reports all staffing and classroom concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.
Participate in ongoing development and evaluation of center’s goals and objectives.
