Network Operations Manager
Firefly Fiber Broadband, a company of CVSI (Central Virginia Services Inc.), a Subsidiary of CVEC (Central Virginia Electric Cooperative), is looking for an experienced Network Operations Manager to join our team as we build a "world class" gigabit fiber to the home (FTTH) network in the CVEC service territory; which includes 14 counties located within Central VA, between Charlottesville and Lynchburg, and I81/I95. Firefly Fiber Broadband is headquartered in Palmyra, VA.
Reporting to the CVSI, Firefly Fiber Broadband General Manager, the Network Operations Manager will serve as the leader in designing, implementing, and maintaining network systems for data and voice communications; ensuring superior customer experience with Internet, WiFi, and VoIP phone services.
The ideal candidate must have experience working in an Internet service provider environment. They must also be a seasoned, well-rounded professional with hands-on experience with the Calix E7-2 GPON platform, Cisco (or Juniper) edge routers, switch and firewall technology, and an advanced understanding of layer 2 & 3 network protocols.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Managing and supporting CVSI's FTTH WAN and 33 substations, backhaul & Internet connections, service provisioning and service delivery facilities & operations. Designing, implementing, and maintaining documentation of network connectivity for LAN and WAN connections. Providing on-site and remote monitoring/configuration for Linux & Windows servers in the CVEC data center (DNS, DHCP, IPAM, CMS, NMS, broadband speed test, etc.). Overseeing managed services vendors on data routing, peering and outsourced operations, and maintain day-to-day security of local data center networks and servers. Working with the GM, vendors & consultants to develop technical plan for network growth and improvements. Working with consultants and construction team to test, light and scale the network. Resolving circuit or hardware failures.
Working with fiber installation leader to optimize service installation tools/processes, remote provisioning, and cloud-based monitoring of access, transport, and in-home networks. Working closely with IT & business partners on GLDS billing integration & flow-through provisioning, voice call quality, and server management. Assisting with preparing BOM's and cost estimates for commercial customer service proposals. Providing assistance to call center staff and 3rd party providers to quickly troubleshoot and resolve customer service issues. Supervising fiber broadband Network Operations & Engineering staff.
Position Requirements Include: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field required. Networking Certifications and advanced degree desirable.
Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with Calix E7-2 platform, ONT/ONU and GigaCenter/Mesh Extender CPE, and Calix Support Cloud. Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with Cisco (or Juniper) routers, switches and firewalls, and optical platforms. Demonstrated knowledge of routing & switching protocols such as BGP, OSPF, VRRP, spanning tree, etherchannel and 802.1q, VLANs, Ipv4/Ipv6 address management, ARIN IP address requests. Windows Server, Linux, LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Fiber and data center cabling, telephony, and security devices. VoIP including Latency & Jitter management and MOS scores, QOS, Server virtualization. NOC or Data Center operations, DDOS mitigation, and cyber security tools/processes.
Demonstrated knowledge of firewall technology supporting site-to-site and remote client VPN, access lists and network address translation (NAT).Previous experience working with Solarwinds NCM/NPM/Netflow preferred

Effective communication skills and the ability to work as a team player. Leadership skills and previous supervisory experience preferred.
